Some people have better days in general than others, but no matter how good or bad our days are, we are always looking for things to make them even better. Most people don’t need to win the lottery or get married to feel they had a good day, and often it’s the small things that brighten up bad and good days alike.
You can’t always control how your day is going, but there are plenty of small things you can do to help make your day brighter, or at least help to ensure it won’t be any worse than it already is. Here are three dozen simple suggestions that will help you through your day.
1. Crafty Creative Reminders
If you are in the habit of forgetting things, place artful reminders in your home, preferably by the door. Get the template for this one here or make your own.
2. Purchasable Creative Reminders
If you don’t feel like making them, just buy creative reminders like this doormat.
3. Grocery Treats
Put treats or other fun things on your shopping list. It will at least be something you know you can look forward to when grocery shopping.
4. Fun To-Do List Items
If you keep a to-do list, be sure to include fun things on it too. That way, when you look at your list, it won’t only contain things you’d rather not be doing.
5. Accomplishment List
Keep a list of things you’ve accomplishment. When you are feeling down or behind in a goal, you can look at that list and see you are actually progressing in something.
6. Grated Butter
Rather than try to spread cold, hard butter on to your toast, grate it.
7. Sponge Holder
It’ll keep your sponge drier and keep you from having to search for it when you need it. Buy one.
8. Figure 8 Cords
Wrapping your cord this way will help it not get tangled in your bag.
9. Security Question Trick
Rather than trying to remember what answer (and what capitalization) you used for every security question, use the same random word(s) for every one (preferably more creative than “mom.” I’m fond of “Purple Icecream bone”). It will be easier to remember, and everyone who happens to know your mom’s maiden name won’t know the answer.
10. Surprise Money
Before you hang your winter coat in the closet for half a year, put $10 in the pocket. When you find it next time it starts to get really cold, you’re day will be a little brighter for it.
